Why do you need a detox?
When toxins are accumulated in the body, you will have fatigue, lethargy, irregular bowel movements, general aches & pains, etc. So, a good Ayurvedic detox helps get rid of them and improve overall well-being. As a result, you will be able to wake up cheerfully in the morning and spend the day energetically. Moreover, the liver is the key organ in our body that deals with toxic substances, and hence cleansing the liver is a primary objective of this Detox. Once the body is well cleansed with the detox, all the internal organs and systems start to operate in their optimum condition, boosting your immunity. Losing weight and getting clearer and smoother skin are some added advantages.
What is Detox
According to Ayurveda, it is about loosening and eliminating toxins, or Ama, in the body and bringing the systems back into proper balance. Our body is an intelligent, self-healing, and self-repairing entity that is well capable of doing this cleansing on its own, if given enough time. However, when the body is flooded with a never-ending storm of inputs like processed food, alcohol, environmental toxins, unresolved emotions, and psychological stress, it does not get any spare time for this process other than processing those inputs.
Therefore, toxins get accumulated within the body over time. Hence, the main objective of the Detox program is to slow down these inputs, allowing the body to reset and repair its systems.
How often should you do a detox?
It is recommended to do a Detox at least twice a year to maintain good health.
Common Ayurvedic treatments that may be recommended include Purva Karma, such as Abhyanga (therapeutic oil massage), Sneha (herbal oil), herbal steam therapy (Sweda), and herbal medications. Pradana karma like Vasti (medicated enema therapy), Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Nasya (nasal cleansing), Vamana (emesis), Raktha mokshana (Blood Letting). Paschath Karma like Dumapana, kavalagraha. These therapies work together to support the body’s natural detoxification processes and promote long-term health under the supervision of an Ayurvedic doctor.
